Orbis Zambia and partners convened in Kabwe

Orbis Zambia and partners convened in Kabwe this week for a pivotal coordination meeting, setting the strategic direction for 2026.

The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the significant milestones achieved in 2025, including outreach programmes, training of health and community health workers, and the strengthening of eye care services across the country. Partners also discussed the challenges encountered and outlined sustainable strategies to further enhance service delivery in 2026, with a particular focus on capacity building for ophthalmic personnel and continued support for outreach initiatives.

The gathering was attended by representatives from the Provincial Health Office, University Teaching Hospitals Eye Hospital, Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital, Kitwe Teaching Hospital, Ndola Teaching Hospital, Chipata Central Hospital, St. Francis Mission Hospital, Lusaka Eye Hospital, as well as several first-level hospitals across Lusaka and beyond.

In her closing remarks, Orbis Country Director Lucia Mvula, represented by Senior Programmes Manager Ruth Nswana, expressed gratitude for the collective achievements and reaffirmed Orbis Zambia’s commitment to continued stakeholder engagement to ensure the provision of quality eye care services. Dr Zipporah Phiri, Senior Medical Superintendent at UTH's Eye Hospital, officially closed the meeting, commending Orbis Zambia for its support to the Ministry of Health and partner hospitals. She emphasised that Zambia is making notable progress in eye health through such partnerships and urged all stakeholders to continue expanding access to underserved communities.

Together, these efforts underscore a shared vision: advancing equitable and sustainable eye health services for all Zambians.
